Sustainability and the participation of local people in the protection and use of cultural and natural heritage have emerged as central aspects in global heritage studies as well as applied heritage management. So far African experiences and perspectives of heritage, sustainability and development appear not to be sufficiently reflected in the debate. Therefore, The International Graduate School: Heritage Studies at Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg, in cooperation with the fahari yetu project under the University Iringa / Tanzania is offering this joint summer school to contribute to the articulation of diverse perspectives beyond the current discourse.
